Valcinet, population 5000, is situated in the central codrul region of the Republic of Moldova. The surrounding terrain consists of rolling hills covered with forest, vineyards, and orchards.

The first historical document to make mention of Valcinet is dated July 17, 1436. In 2006 Valcinet celebrated 570 years.

The Orthodox church dedicated to Saint Nicolae has been active for over 200 years without interruption.

In the recent years several projects to modernize the public services have been implemented: natural gas, telephones, central water, cable television, road repairs, etc.

The first document recording the opening of a village school dates back to 1836. This first school taught reading and writing while operating with and next to the church. Later the first elementary school was opened and operated until 1944. Secondary schooling was conducted in other communities. After WWII a school offering education through the 7th grade was opened and operated until 1956 when the secondary school (Scoala Medie de Cultura Generala) was opened. This first school was a converted house. In February 1968 the current school building was completed and was one of the first of its type in the region.

Until September 1, 2006 two schools operated: the secondary school with 378 students and the primary school with over 200 students. Currently there are over 40 teachers with the majority having the necessary credentials.

On September 1, 2006 the school earned the status of Liceu Teoretic.
