Just 14 km from Călăraşi and 66 km from Chisinau, Vălcineţ is located in the heart of the Codru Forest and surrounded by natural forests, vineyards, and orchards. Its approximatively 5000 citizens consist of small business owners, farmers, students and pensioners.
First mentioned in medieval literature (July 17, 1436) Vălcineţ has a mixture of old and new. Historical interests include the Church dedicated to Saint Nicolea built in 1812, the Natural Monument of Stefan the Great’s well, and the historical museum.
Vălcineţ isn’t simply looking to the past but is looking toward the future. Capital infrastructure improvements made in recent years include natural gas, central water, and road improvements are steps toward making Vălcineţ a modern village . There is much work to do but with the support of the citizens, NGOs, and the public sector much will happen.
